Trade license fee in Bangladesh

How to Acquire a Trade License in Bangladesh

Operating a business in Bangladesh requires a formal permit from the pertinent office of the Dhaka City Corporation or Municipality (Union Parishad, Pouroshava, upozilla, or zillaparishad). This authorization is granted as a Trade License. The Dhaka City Corporation Ordinance, 1983 and Municipal Taxation Rules, 1986 provide the legal justification for the requirement to obtain a Trade License in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, conducting business without a trade license is prohibited. To obtain a business license, the entrepreneur must fill out the proper application form and submit it to the applicable authority’s office. For example, Dhaka City Corporation is divided into north and south sections. The applicant must select the appropriate application form based on the location of the business.

The following documents are required to obtain a business license:

  • Dhaka City Corporation Application Form (North Form) or (South Form)
  • National identification certificate of the business owner
  • Recent receipt or proof of ownership
  • Maintaining Tax payment Receipt
  • Recent photograph of the entrepreneur in passport size
  • Declaration on non-judicial stamp to comply with City Corporation/Municipality/Union Parishad regulations
  • Articles of Association and Memorandum of Association
  • Document of Incorporation
  • Contract of cooperation
  • Permit to Work from the Board of Investment
  • Statement of Financial Stability
  • TIN Certificate

The applicant must obtain the designated Application Form from the City Corporation or applicable Municipality’s Office. The applicant must then submit a completed Application Form from the taxation officer along with the required supporting documents, which will be reviewed by the Licensing Supervisor. Upon payment of fees at the City Corporation or Municipality’s relevant office, the applicant will be issued a business license if all requirements are met.
